The Democratic Party is fucking clown shoes

Tim Dickinson of Rolling Stone details the death of the Climate Bill.

There are two things you should take away from this. First, the way Congress has whiffed on health care and financial regulation is their default mode.  This is what you do if you’re Congress: Start like you’re already halfway to losing. Write a bill in the House that isn’t completely embarassing, in spite of your shitty starting point. Beg, wheedle, and bribe like mad to get the votes of 60 dipshits in the Senate, where simple majority rule no longer exists, compromising the bill each time you want to get an additional dipshit’s vote. Don’t forget to invite the companies you’re supposed to be regulating to the party. You have to hand out sweet deals to them so that they can bribe their Congressmen to vote yes. By now you’re also getting hammered by the Pubs in the media and not fighting back, so the public is against the bill that they used to love. By the time you’re done, you’ll either end up passing a bill worse than the status quo, or, like in this case, writing off the whole thing.

The ineptitude here is staggering. Rather than capitalize on the worst environmental disaster in US history, they pretended it didn’t happen. Maybe it’s a good idea they didn’t publicize that climate bill too hard, since it had a bunch of handouts for more offshore drilling. (A brilliant plan! Way to go! That would have looked really good the same fucking week Deepwater Horizon exploded and killed the entire goddamn eastern seaboard for the rest of our lives!)

The second thing to take away is this:

“We believe we have compromised significantly,” Kerry declared, “and we’re prepared to compromise further.”

Which basically sums up the last year and a half.

Amazing.
